Not quiteright yet.

It healed. You were cleared. And you're still not loading it the way you used to. Cleared to play isn't the same as ready to play. Forty minutes to find out what's still holding it back.

Does this sound like you?

Recurring soft-tissue injuries are Dale's bread and butter — the hamstring that goes every season, the calf that's gone twice, the shoulder that has never quite come good.

"Isn't that just a massage?"

No. A massage loosens it before the game. Myotherapy asks why the same thing has gone three seasons running.

An injury that keeps recurring hasn't finished rehabbing — it stopped hurting, which isn't the same thing. What load it currently tolerates, what still provokes it, and what the joints above and below are doing to cover for it. That's what the assessment is for.

"It's the third time this season and I don't know what I'm doing wrong."

What patients tell Dale

Forty minutes. Nothing wasted.

This is not a warm-up appointment where you come back next week for the actual treatment. All four of these happen on the first visit.

  1. History

What you do, what set it off, what you've already tried, and what it's stopping you doing.

  2. Examination

What load it tolerates now, what still provokes it, and what the joints above and below are compensating for. Testing, not guessing.

  3. Explanation

You get told what's actually going on, in plain words, before anything else happens.

  4. Treatment

Hands-on work starts in the same appointment, plus the two or three things to change between now and next time.

Dale Peirson, Senior Myotherapist, at work in the Mornington clinic Senior Myotherapist · 25 years

Dale Peirson

Twenty-five years of hands on people who were told it had healed. Dale's caseload is chronic and complex — including the recurring injuries that have already been through a few other pairs of hands.

He's the only myotherapist here, so the person who assesses you is the person who treats you, every visit.

Straight answers

Do I need a referral?

No. Book directly.

Will it hurt?

Some of the hands-on work is firm, and load testing means finding the edge of what it tolerates. Dale will tell you before he does it. Nothing happens without you knowing what and why.

Can I keep training?

Usually yes, with changes. Complete rest is rarely the answer for a recurring soft-tissue injury, and you'll leave knowing what to keep doing and what to drop for now.

What if it's actually a new injury?

Then it gets treated as one. If the examination turns up nerve signs — pins and needles, numbness, weakness — or anything that needs imaging, you'll be sent to the chiropractors in this building rather than booked in for more treatment.

Is this covered by private health?

Myotherapy is claimable with most funds that include it in extras cover. Check your level of cover — rebates vary.
