Shoulder Pain · Mornington
The jacket sleeve, the back seat, the seatbelt. And you've stopped sleeping on that side. A shoulder that's been guarded for months doesn't loosen on its own. Forty minutes to find out what's actually restricting it.

Shoulders are one of the three things Dale sees most. They're also the joint most commonly rested — and a rested shoulder gets stiffer, not better.
No. A massage treats the tightness. Myotherapy asks why that shoulder has been guarded for eight months.
With a shoulder that hasn't settled, the shoulder blade and the neck are usually part of it. How the blade moves across your ribs, what the neck is contributing, and which positions you've quietly stopped using — that's what the assessment is for. Working on the sore spot alone is why it hasn't shifted.
"I can't sleep on it, and I've stopped reaching for anything above my head."
What patients tell DaleThis is not a warm-up appointment where you come back next week for the actual treatment. All four of these happen on the first visit.
What you do, what set it off, what you've already tried, and what it's stopping you doing.
Range in every direction, what the shoulder blade is doing, and what the neck is contributing. Testing, not guessing.
You get told what's actually going on, in plain words, before anything else happens.
Hands-on work starts in the same appointment, plus the two or three things to change between now and next time.
Senior Myotherapist · 25 years
Twenty-five years of hands on people who'd been told to rest it. Dale's caseload is chronic and complex — the shoulders that have already been through a few other pairs of hands.
He's the only myotherapist here, so the person who assesses you is the person who treats you, every visit.
I was dealing with terrible frozen shoulder pain until I found Mornington Peninsula Myotherapy and Massage. Their remedial massage techniques freed up my shoulder joint beautifully, offering fantastic service for anyone dealing with upper body stiffness.
Highly recommend their treatments if you suffer from chronic shoulder pain. The team at Mornington Peninsula Myotherapy & Massage explained exactly what was causing my shoulder impingement, and the targeted massage gave me immediate relief.

How long have you been sleeping on one side and reaching with the other arm? The point of the assessment is to stop working around it.
Tell Dale at the start, and expect to be pointed next door. Pain, pins and needles or weakness are nerve signs, and the spine and nervous system are a chiropractor's field rather than a myotherapist's — sciatica and radicular pain especially. Mornington Peninsula Chiropractic is in this building, so an assessment is a walk down the corridor, not another search.
No. Book directly.
Some of the hands-on work on a stiff shoulder is firm, and range work can be uncomfortable at the end of the movement. Dale will tell you before he does it. Nothing happens without you knowing what and why.
That happens reasonably often — the neck refers pain into the shoulder and upper arm convincingly. You'll be told that, and it gets treated as what it actually is.
Maybe, and it matters, because a genuinely frozen shoulder follows a different timeline and is managed differently. That's one of the things the assessment is for.
