Before you book

Do I need a referral?

No. Book directly. No GP paperwork is needed to attend or to claim from your health fund.

Is this just a massage?

No. A massage treats the tightness. Myotherapy asks why the tightness has been there for four years, and treats that. There's hands-on work involved, but it follows an examination rather than replacing one.

How do I know if it's the right thing for me?

If it's muscle or joint pain that hasn't settled on its own, it's very likely the right thing. If it isn't, you'll be told at the first appointment.

Can I bring my scans?

Yes, and they're useful. But they're not required, and a scan on its own rarely explains why something hurts — plenty of people have alarming scans and no pain at all.

The appointment

Will it hurt?

Some of the hands-on work on something long-standing is firm. Dale will tell you before he does it, and nothing happens without you knowing what and why. Firm is not the same as unbearable, and you can say stop.

Do I have to take my clothes off?

No. You stay fully dressed throughout. Wear something you can move in.

What is dry needling, and do I have to have it?

Fine needles into deep muscle tension, used where it's the most direct way to release something. It is optional, always explained first, and plenty of people are treated effectively without it.

Will I be sore afterwards?

Sometimes, for a day, particularly after firm work on something chronic. Dale will tell you which to expect before you leave.

Money and logistics

What does it cost?

$160 for a 40-minute appointment, $135 for 20 minutes. Nothing to pay when you book — you settle on the day. Full detail on the prices page.

Can I claim on private health?

Yes, with most funds that include myotherapy in extras cover. HICAPS is on site so the rebate comes off at the counter. Rebates vary — ring your fund and ask about myotherapy specifically.

When are you open?

Dale is in Monday to Thursday. The clinic is at 12/1140 Nepean Highway, Mornington, with parking on site.

What if I need to cancel?

Ring the clinic on 03 5947 4896 as early as you can. A 40-minute slot that goes unused can't be offered to anyone else, so the more notice you can give, the better.

Do you treat WorkCover, TAC or DVA?

Ring the clinic and ask — arrangements differ by scheme and by claim, and it's better answered by a person than by a web page.

Dale Peirson

Twenty-five years of hands on people who'd been told to rest it. Dale's caseload is chronic and complex — the backs, shoulders and necks that have already been through a few other pairs of hands.

He's the only myotherapist here, so the person who assesses you is the person who treats you, every visit.
